How to Apply to the School of Education
Getting Started
Create an account with our online admissions system today. This will allow you to complete an application for graduate programs in the School of Education—or start one and save your progress if you need to finish it later. You’ll use this application for graduate degree, teacher licensure, and approval/endorsement programs.
If you’ve already started an online application, you can log back into the system to complete it.
Admission to graduate programs in the School of Education is granted throughout the year. There are no strict application deadlines, but we encourage you to apply well in advance of the term during which you wish to start. You can begin graduate programs at various times, depending on what degree or license you are seeking. Program start terms are as follows:
- Post-bachelor’s Teacher Licensure: August, January
- Teacher Endorsements: August, October, January, March, May, and July
- Master of Arts in Education: August, October, January, March, May, and July
- Master of Arts in Teaching: August, October, January
- Master of Arts in Literacy, Language, and Culture: August, October, January, March, May, and July
- Master of Arts in Educational Leadership: August
Admission Requirements
Some of the graduate education programs have specific admission requirements that will also help students meet the Illinois state licensure requirements upon completion of their program.
All programs will need the following:
- A completed online application.
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, generally with a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- Two professional and/or academic recommendations. Log in to the supplemental items list in your account at http://npu.force.com/app to send a recommendation request through our online system (required for master’s degree and licensure only).
- Official transcripts from all colleges and universities you have attended, sent directly to North Park University:

GPA Requirement
Generally, only students with a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in undergraduate work will be considered for admission to master’s degree and teacher licensure programs in the School of Education. The teacher licensure requirement for GPA is 2.5 on a 3.0 scale and 2.75 in the major on a 3.0 scale and technically we do not typically list GPA requirements for endorsements and approval. Students not meeting the specific GPA requirements may still be considered with additional documents. Contact your admissions counselor.
Admissions Interview
Candidates for graduate or teacher licensure programs may be required to complete an interview with a School of Education admissions committee. Your recruiter will discuss this with you as needed.
International Students
International students are welcome to complete a graduate degree in education. In addition to the requirements listed above, international degree-seeking students must also provide the following:
- An official transcript evaluation performed by World Education Services or Educational Credential Evaluators. This evaluation should be a course-by-course report.
- A certificate of finance and affidavit of support
- Copies of your passport and, if available, your visa and current I-20
- Immunization record
- An official TOEFL score in compliance with North Park University’s English Proficiency Requirement.International students are eligible to receive North Park scholarships.
Admissions Decisions
Your application will be reviewed by an admissions committee after all materials have been received by the University. You will be informed of the committee’s decision within two weeks of completing your application by both U.S. Mail and by either phone or email. All documents submitted become the property of North Park University and cannot be returned to you at any time.
